Education and Training
Karen received both her Bachelor’s in Child Development and her Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Texas. While attending school, Karen volunteered and completed a Fellowship at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas as a Child Life Specialist helping children navigate and understand the hospital experience. Once completing her undergraduate degree, Karen went on to receive her Masters with a specialization in Play Therapy. She completed her training with an internship at Genesis Women’s Shelter, helping children and families who had experienced Domestic Violence.
Karen has continued her journey helping children who have experienced trauma. Over the years her experience includes working with victims of violent crimes, domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse, and interpersonal and relationship trauma. Karen also continued her work on the medical side, as she worked with children and adults who received cancer diagnosis through what was formerly known as Gilda’s Club.
Today Karen splits her time between her private practice and Momentous Institute, where she has been for the last 9 years helping to serve children and families with various emotional and behavioral difficulties.
