Education and Training

Karen received both her Bachelor’s in Child Development and her Master’s in Counseling from the University of North Texas. While attending school, Karen volunteered and completed a Fellowship at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas as a Child Life Specialist helping children navigate and understand the hospital experience. Once completing her undergraduate degree, Karen went on to receive her Masters with a specialization in Play Therapy. She completed her training with an internship at Genesis Women’s Shelter, helping children and families who had experienced Domestic Violence.


Experience

Karen has continued her journey with 20 plus years experience , helping children and families with many different emotional and behavioral concerns. This includes but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief and loss, separation/divorce and trauma. Karen’s training and experience with trauma includes working with victims of violent crime, interpersonal trauma including domestic violence, physical and sexual abuse,and attachment disruption between parent and child.  Karen has continued her work on the medical side, as she works with children and adults who receive cancer diagnosis and preparing for surgery or a medical diagnosis.  

Recently, Karen finished up her work with children and families at Momentous Institute, where she developed and implemented the play therapy program to better help young children be served. In 2015, Karen was a presenter at their yearly conference, Changing The Odds; Ted Talk on Play Therapy and Complex Trauma.

Currently

Today Karen is working at her private practice in Dallas. As well as, embarking on a new journey, providing equine facilitated counseling at Equest in Dallas.
